Do smart meters satisfy consumers? YES.

Among the top 12 utility smart meter deployments, customers who say they have a smart meter installed at their household are much more satisfied than customers who do not think they have one … well, at least outside of California this is true.

In most markets, consumers with a smart meter rate their utility an astounding 55 index points higher in overall satisfaction than other customers.

The story in California, however, isn’t as glum as it appears above – the negative smart meter news there peaked late in 2010 and satisfaction has recovered quickly for those with smart meters.

The top 12 utility deployments (in terms of the percentage of customers who say they have a smart meter installed) include: APS, Austin Energy, CMP, Delmarva Power, Idaho Power, PG&E, Portland General Electric, Sawnee EMC, SDG&E, SMUD, SRP, and Southern California Edison.
